Enter the Arena of Life

You aren’t going to achieve anything if you never put yourself in a position where you can fail; which means if you’re tired of being stuck in the same spot in life year after year, you’re going to have to do something about it.

 

The only way your life will change is if your behaviors change; this doesn’t require you moving away and selling all your crap, it requires you choosing to take actions different than the defaults you currently have.

It’s never too late, you just need to be ready to put in the work.

 


 

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

Get Off The Couch

The first step to changing your life is getting yourself in motion.

By motion I don’t mean getting an inflated gym ball at your desk (though I do believe they’re better for you than chairs) what I mean is that you move your body through the world more often.

There’s nothing worse for you than sitting on your ass day in and day out; the phrase, “Sitting is the new smoking” does have some merit to it.

 

You achieve nothing when you go days without going for walks, hikes, stair-milling at the gym, or doing laps in the pool/on the bike. In fact, your focus on remaining steady is why your life is so unsteady; you don’t know how to navigate the world which you are a part of and that’s why you haven’t entered the arena in your life, you’ve yet to get up and enter any endeavor whole-heartedly.

You’re so focused on comfort and “relaxing” (from what?) that you’re closer related to a mushroom than anyone who’s achieved great things.

People who win in life and are content with who they are as a person are people who go out into the world and see, do hear, and immerse themselves in things. They’re people who are a part of the production, not those consuming in the stands.

Make it a point to go a greater distance of time before you plop your butt on the couch for the night.

Do a home-project, paint a room, walk on the treadmill while watching your show, do anything which gets you in gear.

Stagnation has you sitting on death row and you don’t even know it.

 

Stop Scrolling On Electronics

Just like the sitting on the couch, scrolling on your phone does absolutely nothing for you.

 

  • The information you come across is forgotten the next minute.
  • The images you see stimulate your brain for a moment, until you’re desensitized and then the brain isn’t even recording anything.
  • The flick of the screen becomes habitual to where you’re no longer even sure what you’re doing, how long you’ve been doing it, or what else there is for you to get up and go do…

The scrolling is a Time Vampire that’s robbing you of time which could be put towards your involvement in living.

Go Ahead and Look Dumb

If being uncomfortable is what’s holding you back, you’ve got to realize that life isn’t about sustained comfort, in fact the purpose of life is going to be found in the process of doing uncomfortable things.

Every great, was once a student.

Anyone who’s good at anything was once terrible at it.

If they’d quit because it was hard or because they were mocked for being a beginner, we’d have no experts, we’d have no professionals, and we’d have nobody to lead the next generation to greater heights.

We have Champions because people overcome and persevere in the face of adversity and inner-turmoil.

Your self-doubt needs to be faced directly and you need to be the one to drop the excuses and simply commit yourself to doing the thing.
